Theme Song

After my last post on the best seven bucks, I was overwhelmed with all the comments I received. Thanks!!! You've inspired me to write another post that will allow you to share your thoughts...

Whenever I drive my girls (ages 10, 10, and 9- yes, those are their ages...that's another post...) in my car, they like to grab my Dell DJ (if your a newbie, you can click here to see why I use this lame mp3 player) and crank up the tunes. Over the last several months, they have decided on a "theme song" that we must play every time the four of us are in the car together without mom. They insist on rolling down the windows and singing along at the top of their lungs. Sydney said we needed to roll down the windows so we could, "share God's love with the world around us." I'm not exactly sure if the world around us would recognize a dad driving his three tween girls around in a bright orange Element with the windows down and obnoxious music blaring as "sharing God's love," but it just makes me smile. The Theme song that they have come up with is called "No One Like You" by BarlowGirl. I have to admit, I sometimes sing along too. They will usually follow that up with something like "Rush" from Aly and AJ. I don't have Miley Cyrus or I'm sure I would have to hear "Girl's Night" or something else like it. Hey, even the Dell DJ has some limits.

So tell me, if you were going to come up with YOUR theme song that you rolled down the windows and played everytime you got in your car, what would it be? Don't let me down... :)

Mine would have to be "I Am Free" by the Newsboys. Not only do I crank it up, sometimes I have to pull over so that I can sing it out load with my eyes closed and my hands raised. I have no problem driving with my cell phone in one hand and a Subway sandwich in the other. Safety come first when I "got my praise on".

For a full third of my son Cohen's life (he is only 5 :-)...his theme song has been "Life Is A Highway" from Cars...its has been a riot listening to him belt the words from the back-seat for the last year and a half - at first totally unintelligible, but now, quite scholarly in his delivery, pronunciation, intonation and rhythm!
Before that his favorite was Camptown Races from the The Stephen Foster Musical album.
As for MacKenzie, right now it is any song from the Willie Wonka and The Chocolate kid's musical, which she will be in performing in during the summer.
In fact, we ALL know every word of every song of that soundtrack already, and the summer practices haven't even started yet.
She does a good job on the song "Accentuate The Positive!" (which her mother and I hope the message will sink into her brain and heart as she is so melancholy) ...Cohen's favorite on that soundtrack is "I Eat More, I Eat MORE! I EAT MORE!" his Hungarian accent is really coming along, you should hear it :-)

We don't really have a theme song, but I do have ones that get stuck in my head. ...Apple bottom jeans, boots with the fur......I'll be glad when that one goes away. But I do have a recording of Lauren and the girls singing "No One LIke You" on my phone, it used to be my ring tone for you guys. I'll have to listen to it.

I can just picture you all tooling around town with their heads out the window singing at the top of their lungs.

Glory by our friend Jeff Deyo! I worship with that song to the top of my lungs!

Awakening by Switchfoot. Owen is four and loves to sing along with this one. Ivan (2) is catching on as well. Owen likes to try to mime the yell at the beginning of the song but usually doesn't time it quite right. He's getting there.

I'm a new "commenter" but have read your blog a few times lately. It's been nice to see what's going on with you guys.

"No One Like You" is definitely a fave, but for some reason they like the DCB version. I don't even think they've heard the BG version. (My boys outnumber my girl 2 to 1) Another fave is "Tell the World" by Hillsong Kids.

My 4 yr old, Lincoln, goes crazy with Life is a Highway. Still.

Abbey is all about Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. 7 Things is a new fave from Miley.

You guys sound like a lot of fun. Frisco needs more people riding around sharing the love of Jesus, ha ha.

Mark, I haven't needed a theme song in quite a while. I'll give it some thought... Maybe Free Bird? ;-)

Hey Pastor Mark! My theme song would be "I Will Not Forget You" by 100 Portraits and Waterdeep...you've probably never heard of them, but they're incredible, and that song is fabulous!!! Or maybe "Though I'm Not Worthy" by Kari Jobe (video is on my myspace if you wanna check it out - www.myspace.com/marnagreeneyes)...love that one too! :)

I'm just getting around to responding....but with my kids, the theme song is "Boondocks" by Little Big Town. I know it might seem a little hokey. But, I think there's a good message there for the kids to be repeating over and over....remember who you are and where you came from. http://youtube.com/watch?v=gjDfZ2SjfCc&feature=related

Hey Pastor Mark! Mike and I have a new one of late...we love to totally strip down the jeep and crank up "God of this City" sung by Chris Tomlin. First time we heard it we were in Africa, and now it reminds us of our mission in Africa. We'll be moving to Uganda August this year! You can follow what we're up to at my blog, onecity-jambo.com Really enjoy reading about your life!
